Think gas prices are high? Think again. As always, if there's a disaster, Democrats and liberal Republicans have a tax for it. The disaster in Minneapolis is the perfect example.
Because the bridge fell, it has pointed out the problems with some of our nation's infrastructure. So what happens? Higher taxes on
gas at the pump. Like the trillions of dollars the government taxes us every year just isn't enough.
As Rush says, the new Democrat slogan should be, "We've got what it takes to take what you've got!"
In the beginning when the tax on gasoline was proposed, it was supposed to be set aside for bridge repair and road work. That's what we were led to believe, anyway. But that was to get it passed. What really happened is that greedy politicians put the money in the general fund (much like Social Security and other programs have done) and spent it on food for the kids and other social programs, thus neglecting our nation's infrastructure... which brings us to where we are today!
I, for one, am for accountability in the budget. I think money that is collected for a purpose should be earmarked for that purpose and NOTHING ELSE! This is one case where I would support earmarks! ACCOUNTABILITY!
Just as money collected by the state lotteries were set up to help the schools, that money should only be used for that purpose. And money paid into social security could only be used for that program. It used to be that way before congress saw all that money sitting there not being used and began drooling.
So just like the line item veto should be passed, so should accountability in government spending be. Enough with the taxes already. But I have a theory about that too. The only reason that people aren't up in arms like they were during the Boston Tea Party is that we are so well off in this country (despite what you've heard in the LYING MEDIA) that we pay the taxes without a blink of the eye. After all, my liberal friends say, it's only fair we pay our share to be able to live in this country.
But think how much better we could be doing without the IRS! Maybe poverty would really be wiped out if everyone got to keep the money they made by implementing the Fair Tax (look it up). Not that I am confident it will ever happen, but let's hope so we can put this country back on the right track... And get rid of the 2 Americas... the victims (and thus want bigger government to protect them) and the ones that take responsibility for their lives.
