Berkeley... where else?

You've probably heard by now about the flap over the Berkeley, CA city council writing a letter basically asking the Marine recruiter to leave it's downtown location. They even gave a parking space right out front to Code Pink, a liberal anti-war group who picketed Nancy Pelosi's Pacific Heights home last year. Is anyone surprised?

Not me. When 9/11 happened, the Berkeley City government instructed the fire department to remove the American Flags from their vehicles because it might cause a riot! I stopped buying Cliff Bars at that point and let the company know that if they continued to do business in Berkeley, they would no longer get my dollars. They didn't seem to care, and they haven't gone out of business either.

As a member of MoveAmericaForward.org, I was alerted to the pro-troop protest that Melanie Morgan of KSFO Radio morning show fame helped organize, but could not attend. I did participate in the e-mail and blog campaign to contact the Berkeley City government, but could not make the rally. Apparently it got some attention. I was very please that they made the news last night; the news reports even had comments from pro-troop supporters... probably because the liberal Code Pink types were mostly high school students who were given credit for skipping school and attending the rally. Thanks to California's education system, they probably couldn't string 2 sentences together to create a decent sound byte!

This morning I received an e-mail from a friend in Arizona who heard about the flap. National attention! I like that. Anyway, his comments were, "Maybe there is some light at the end of the tunnel. Saw where the nuts in Berkeley backed off – isn’t it amazing what a little economic threat will do to the liberal consciousness. As Ron White would say, 'they have a lot of QUIT in them.'"

I used to say "Marin County... where else?" John Walker Lindh, the Sausalito group who was thrown out of China for protesting the occupation of Tibet. But now I say, "Berkeley... where else?"
