Has Microsoft become too big for its britches? Releasing operating systems early has always been one of the company's mistakes, but Vista, it seems, could finally do Microsoft in. I have no statistical information to support my observation, but I have anectdotal information to back up my claim.
Have you seen the Apple commercials where Mac and PC are talking to each other? The chubby PC fellow comes out looking like a dufus while the Mac guy, always kind, is constantly showing his superiority. As a long time supporter of Bill Gates and Microsoft, I have lived for years with the shortcomings of PCs, even making a living as a consultant to large corporations helping them roll out Microsoft updates.
But now that I have a new Sony Vaio (which I bought from CompUSA that I've heard is going out of business!) which runs Vista, my nightmare is complete. Practically nothing runs on it. Essentially what I have is an expensive brick that runs Office 2003 programs and little else.
In fact, Microsoft is so incompatible with computers in general that Windows Explorer constantly shuts down! Microsoft can not get its operating system to run with... itself!
Needless to say, my next computer will be a Macintosh. I'm through with Microsoft. I have sent many problem reports to MS technical support and never hear anything back. Am I surprised? Not if as many other people are experiencing the same thing as I am, I'm not. They are probably overwhelmed.
My personal opinion? Bill Gates has moved on to his philanthropic endeavors; too busy trying to promote his liberal ideas to run his business... which I hope he soon loses due to incompetence. My hope is that Vista puts the last nail in the Microsoft coffin!
